Designing a Better Travel Vaccination Journey

A traveller needs to know what they need, whether their province covers it, and when they can be seen. Those three answers used to live on three unconnected pages.

01 — Overview

Medical content with a booking deadline attached

Travel vaccination is time-sensitive: some courses need weeks before departure. The interface has to inform accurately and still move someone to an appointment in the same visit.

Scope: destination selection, province selection, vaccination information, consultation, booking, the appointment flow and the mobile experience.

Designed for

Representative user profile

Aisha, 29

First-time traveller

Goal — find out fast whether she needs a vaccine before she books.

Frustration — requirement, coverage and booking living on three unconnected pages.

Representative user profile

Dev, 45

Returning traveller

Goal — check what his province covers before he pays out of pocket.

Frustration — no way to see provincial coverage until checkout.

02 — Challenge

The guidance was correct and nearly unusable

Volume

Every destination returned a long undifferentiated list of vaccines.

Eligibility

Coverage differs by province, but province was asked for late or not at all.

Urgency

Lead times were buried in body copy, so people did not know they were already late.

Handoff

Reading ended in a dead end instead of a consultation or a booking.

03 — Flow

Two inputs first, then everything narrows

1

Destination

Country, with departure date

2

Province

Sets coverage and pricing rules

3

Requirements

Required, recommended, optional

4

Consultation

Pharmacist review where needed

5

Appointment

Location, date, confirmation

Before

A reference library you had to interpret

After

A guided sequence that ends in a booking

Before

Lead times hidden in paragraphs

After

Timing shown against the departure date

04 — Final interface

Requirement, timing and booking on one screen

05 — Outcome & learnings

Booking is the only honest measure here

Consultation bookings

More travellers booked a consultation instead of abandoning after reading requirements.

Flow completion

More people finished the three-step flow in a single sitting.

Steps to an appointment

Fewer steps stood between landing on the site and a confirmed appointment.

What worked

Asking for province up front let every downstream screen be specific instead of hedged.

What I would change

The departure date should drive a saved plan with reminders, not just sort the current page.
